SCENAR

What is SCENAR?
SCENAR (Self-Controlled Energo-Neuro Adaptive Regulator) works as a perfect accompaniment to Bowen Therapy, since they are both focussed on triggering the body’s own healing response.
A SCENAR device is a piece of medical equipment developed for the Russian Space Programme, and licenced for pain relief in the UK.
SCENAR is completely non-invasive. It delivers gentle, therapeutic electro-stimulation, through the skin, and can be used to treat a variety of complaints. It uses biofeedback techniques to trigger the brain to initiate the healing response most suitable to each person.

How does it work?
Similar to the TENS machine, SCENAR is applied directly to the site of the pain or injury, and delivers electrical impulses designed to trigger nerves to release neuropeptides - the body’s very own healing response.
The problem is that over time, the body can become used to a repetitive signal, and will begin to tune it out. As a result, the therapeutic benefits of TENS machines are short-lived, unlike those of SCENAR Therapy.
SCENAR uses real time biological feedback between the device and the body. This unique feature of SCENAR treatment means that it constantly modulates the signals it is giving out, in response to the signals it receives from the brain.

Who can it help?
SCENAR therapy has been used successfully to help a huge range of conditions, from acute and chronic pain, to problems with the digestive and respiratory systems, and even cardiovascular disease.
Your therapist will be able to assess your condition to determine if SCENAR is the correct treatment for you.
SCENAR has been shown to be particularly effective in treating chronic conditions. This is because, over time, the brain can become accustomed to signals from one particular part of the body, and stop responding. This means it is no longer working to heal that condition or pain, and so it becomes a chronic problem. SCENAR therapy essentially reminds the brain that there’s a problem in that area, and triggers it to reassess, and complete the healing process.
What to expect from your SCENAR treatment
SCENAR treatment is not painful. The device sends out gentle signals, and works through the skin (transdermal). It is completely non-invasive.
The area to be treated may need to be shaved ahead of your therapy - speak to your therapist for more information
The use of alcohol and/ or recreational drugs for 24 hours before or after the treatment may make it less effective, as they block the brain’s ability to properly process information.
People who have a heart pacemaker fitted should not have SCENAR therapy. People with epilepsy will be considered on an individual basis.
